Twisted Shadows!
Finally! I had been waiting to read the second book in the Sugar & Vice trilogy for what felt like AGES! When afforded the opportunity, I lunged into reading mode, very nearly neglecting all else save my daughter and mother (and mind, I attended to them with very audible grumblings, LOL).
What a fun read, and boy, did I feel seen. While Empaths in this series are vested with paranormal-level caring, I am known as a crybaby. I am susceptible to phantom pain just as much as I unfortunately fall prey to secondhand embarrassment. Those who can distance themselves from problems, even their own, are basically supernatural to me. In this book, the caring is not reserved for non-corrupted empaths but can be found in Reece's protective sister and her adorable partner, Liam (I LOVE THEIR RELATIONSHIP #Goals), to Aisha's protectiveness over those already corrupted and McFeely's Bouncer/Owner who is just an all-around great guy. Most notable, however, is Evan Grayson (though he would swear up and down that he can't feel anything about anything). For an Empath Hunter/Specialist with no emotions, he is beyond hilarious and cute/cuddly in a very mysterious, bad boy who keeps saving your life at the expense of his own way.
The surprises and reveals are well-earned, and the romance is sizzling. It's a good time and a great read, perhaps especially for the oversensitive like myself.
